Life Cycle of Shea Body Butter ( See image at bottom of page)

1)

  • Shea nuts grow on Shea trees

  • They are hand collected by the woman of Ghana.

  • This ingredient will later be bought by The Body Shop (Community fair trade)

2)

  • The nuts are sun dried, they are then crushed and grinded into Shea butter.

  • The Body Shop buys the butter from the women in Ghana and they then send it to other countries for further processing (Add extra ingredients to make she body butter)

3)

  • Product gets manufactured such as extra ingredients are added.

  • The products get packaged and ready to fly to their destination.

4)

  • Products from the UK get shipped to Melbourne; these products then get distributed to stores all over Australia.

  • Products are mostly flown over from the UK, but are sometimes shipped.

5)

  • Consumers use the product and end up throwing away the container.

  • Packaging and bags can be recycled.

  • Bottles and jars could be reused as they are made from glass and plastic.

6)

  • People throw out or recycle their bottles.

  • The left over product may get thrown out or tipped down or sink or into a drain (Chemicals in the environment)

7)

  • Packaging eventually ends up in the tip or recycled into new packaging.

  • Paper, plastic and glass get recycled.

  • Bottles may end up in the sea in some cases leading to injured animals.

Recycling:

  • Packaging such as glass and plastic containers can be reused for everyday household purposes.
